The problem

Why expat entrepreneurs struggle with websites in Germany.

The German web agency market was built for German clients. Getting a site built in English - let alone navigating German compliance requirements - is harder than it should be.

🇩🇪

Every agency works in German

You send an email in English. The response comes in German. The brief, the design review, the contracts, the invoices - all German. For a non-speaker, this adds friction to every single step.

⚖️

German compliance is a minefield

Impressum, Datenschutzerklärung, DSGVO, cookie consent - German law applies to your website whether you're registered here or not. Agencies that don't know this will leave you exposed to competitor Abmahnungen.

📋

No one explains anything

German agencies assume their clients understand how German websites work. For an expat, the gap between expectations and German legal reality is wide - and the consequences of getting it wrong are real and expensive.

🖼️

Templates that don't fit

The typical expat business is specific: international clients, German address, cross-border work. Off-the-shelf templates don't communicate this. You end up with a site that looks like a German plumber's homepage.

German compliance, explained

What your website needs in Germany — and what we handle for you.

Every commercial website in Germany needs these three things. We produce and implement all of them. You review, approve and go live.

Impressum (Legal Imprint) Full legal name, postal address, direct contact, VAT ID if applicable. Required on every commercial website regardless of where the company is based. We produce the correct version for your business form (Freiberufler, GbR, GmbH, Ltd.).
Datenschutzerklärung (Privacy Policy) Explains what personal data you collect, why and how long. Specific to your site's actual tools and scripts - not a generic template that mentions things you don't use. We produce a correct, specific version.
Cookie Consent Non-essential tracking scripts (Google Analytics, Google Fonts from Google's servers, YouTube embeds) cannot load until the visitor actively accepts. We implement a GDPR-compliant consent solution on every project.

FAQ

Common questions about web design for expats in Germany.

Not necessarily - but if you're based in Germany or serving German clients, a legal Impressum is required regardless of what language the site is in. German law applies to any commercial website targeting German users, even if the content is entirely in English. We handle the Impressum, cookie consent and privacy policy automatically as part of every project.
Slightly. The Impressum content differs by business form. GmbH websites require additional information: the commercial register number, the registered court (Amtsgericht) and the names of all managing directors. Freiberufler have simpler requirements but still need specific professional information listed. We ask for your exact legal form in the briefing and produce the correct Impressum for your structure.
Yes. We can advise on whether a .de or .com domain better fits your positioning and target audience. We also help with domain registration if needed, and configure everything correctly - DNS, SSL and email forwarding. Both .de (DENIC-registered) and international domains are supported.
We hand over with full English documentation. Any CMS or content editing interface is explained in English. If you need ongoing content changes - new pages, updated service descriptions, blog posts - we offer that as part of the monthly maintenance plan. You will always have a direct English-speaking contact.
Yes. Many expat businesses serve both markets. We build clean bilingual structures with separate URLs per language and correct hreflang implementation. Both versions are maintained going forward. No duplicate-content SEO issues, no side-by-side toggle that confuses search engines.
Very little. We produce the Impressum and Datenschutzerklärung based on information you provide about your business. We implement cookie consent. We explain what each element does and why it's legally required - in plain English. You review, approve and we go live. The only thing we need from you is the factual information about your business (legal name, address, VAT ID etc.).
